Amanda the Panda is a non-profit grief support agency for children (age 6 and up), teens, and adult family members throughout the state of Iowa. The agency provides support in a safe, understanding environment to any child and family who experiences the death of a parent, sibling, relative, or close friend through an accident, illness, suicide, or homicide. Program services are free of charge to ensure accessibility to bereaved children and families regardless of income, race, religion, type of death, gender, or age. In addition to camps, other services include: children, teen, and adult support groups, home visits, in-school presentations, holiday cheer boxes, hospital visits, pen pals, fun day socials, and consulting services. Since its inception in 1980, the agency has served over 30,000 children and families statewide. Amanda the Panda's programs have received national and local recognition through feature articles in "The Des Moines Register", "Bereavement Magazine", "Life", "Better Homes and Gardens", "Family Circle" and television broadcasts including "Good Morning America."
