Information and help on sexual abuse can be received by calling the 800 number. Full-time rape crisis staffers will answer the phone during business hours and on some evenings and weekends. Trained volunteers will fill in during off hours. The service is designed to help victims find medical assistance or counseling and offers families of victims advice in dealing with the crisis. The service is confidential, though officials say that the police will be contacted if that is what the victims want. Translators are available for those who do not speak English, and equipment has been installed to allow the deaf to use the service.
